InnSuites History

 

1970: Mr. James Wirth began his hotel career with Ramada Inns as Assistant to the Executive VP and then Assistant to the President. He recognized changes in the hotel industry toward Suite hotels with breakfast, social hour, micro and fridge included.

1973: Mr. Wirth left Ramada in 1973 to start Rare Earth Development Company real estate company to invest in land, hotels, and other real estate opportunities to benefit from the need  to offer a better value hotel.

1979: Mr. Wirth founded InnSuites Innternational Inns and Resorts, today InnSuites Hotels and InnSuites Hospitality trust.

1980: Opened first hotel in Scottsdale, Arizona with the name, Time InnSuites based on a clock tower.  The name “Time” was soon dropped and focused on the name InnSuites and the growing value suite concept.

1981: Phoenix InnSuites hotel opened

1982: Tucson Oracle InnSuites opened

1983: Yuma InnSuites hotel opened.  Pamela Barnhill started with InnSuites as a receptionist at InnSuites Headquarters and later moved into roles including Reservation Center (1991), Front Desk at BW Tucson Foothills (1993-1994), Revenue Manager(2002) and General Manager for Scottsdale(2003) and Phoenix (2004-2007) to advance to Division Vice President.

1983: Tempe InnSuites hotel opened

1984: The name InnSuites was federally trademarked.

1986: Yuma’s Kofa addition, Tucson Foothills addition and the Tempe tower opened

1987: Jim Green joined InnSuites as GM in Yuma to advance to Director of Operations.

1989: Marc Berg joined InnSuites as Executive Vice President to solve the Arizona real estate related problems.

1990: Ontario InnSuites opened in California

1994: Flagstaff InnSuites Hotel Aspen opened

1995: InnSuites added affiliates in Rocky Point, Mexico and Nogales, Arizona and Sierra Vista, Arizona

1997: Buena Park/Anaheim InnSuites and Tucson City Center InnSuites were added

1998: January 31, 1998: InnSuites Hotels merged with Realty Refund Trust and became InnSuites Hospitality Trust, a public company, listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).  InnSuites Hospitality Trust purchased San Diego Lafayette InnSuites

1999:  InnSuites purchased Fort Worth/DFW Hotel Trinity .  Anthony Waters joined InnSuites as Chief Financial Officer.

2000: Albuquerque InnSuites added in New Mexico

2004: San Diego InnSuites hotel sold but InnSuites continued to manage.  Buena Park/Anaheim hotel sold but continues InnSuites reservations affiliation.

2008: InnSuites Boutique Hotel Collection founded with strong initial success in Ft Worth and Flagstaff followed by Tucson City Center, Tempe and Hollywood with additional expansion plans ahead.

2009:  InnSuites Hotels continues in its 30th year as a successful hospitality organization serving the guest, the staff and the investors.
